The Cumaen Sybil

Sybil is a mother, dancer, writer and teacher. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Southern Maine where she studied fiction intensively with mentors, Joan Connor, Dennis Lehane, and Elizabeth Searle. She credits her former director (who created & piloted the Stonecoast MFA in Creative Writing), Lee Hope Betcher with inspiring her to write and always believing in her and her art.  Her short stories and articles have appeared in The Baltimore Review, Words & Images, Llewellyn Worldwide's Magical Almanacs, The Witches Calendar, The Casco Bay/Maine Weekly, as well as other publications. She has won awards and scholarships for her fiction.

Sybil has been dancing for over 25 years, studying Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Modern, Lyrical, Gymnastics (a long time ago!), African, Indian, and Middle Eastern Dance.  She honors Josie Conte, the goddess~mother of all things in Portland, Maine Bellydance as her inspiration to thoroughly pursue this art form.  Sybil has danced with Medusa Maidens, Bellibone, and as a solist. She has appeared at numerous Plague nights (a Gothic Dance Club Event in Portland, Maine), The Maine Belly Dance Festival 2007, Eros Noir, A Christmas with Voltaire, The Gothic Ball, Raks Spooki, , Local Metal Shows, Halfway to Halloween 2006, Pagan events, countless local and "away" hafli's, Spoken Word Nights, writing events,  charity events, and numerous other projects.

A practicing witch for over twenty years, Sybil believes that all dancing is a form of worship and weaves movement throughout her rituals and spellcraft.  Although her children have always danced with her, Luna Wind was created during a bout of bedrest over the late fall of 2005. Along with her partner Drew, Sybil used henna magic to ease the discomfort and fear of preterm birth and thus the inspiration for combining dance, henna art, and ceremony was born.  Luna Wind made their debut at Maine Pagan Pride Day 2006.
